Preserving the past, building the future.
James Innes & Son is a sixth generation stonemasonry and building company based in Doune, in the central belt of Scotland. Over our company's 150 year history, our family has handled every aspect of the masonry trade. From historic restorations, to one off new build projects. We pride ourselves in giving our clients a personal service with high quality end results.
Our History
Established in 1850 our Company has produced an unbroken line of six generations working in stone within the building trade. The founder of our company, the first James Innes, born around 1830 can be seen in photo one. Here he is finishing off the date stone on a notable building in Doune. His son who can be seen in the second photo standing fourth from the left was the second generation. This photo is of the construction of the Doune water supply where James Innes was the clerk of works. The third generation took the company through the second world war and the great depression. James Innes covered many of the historic buildings in our area and was also contracted to build many of the post war private houses such as Argaty Mill. Our final photo is of the fourth, fifth and sixth generation. James Innes senior, James Innes junior and his sons, Hamish and Adam Innes.
