L. Dobell & Sons is a family-run business based in Retford, Nottinghamshire, with a long and rich history dating back to 1962. The company was founded by Leslie Dobell, who was later joined by two of his sons, and is now being run by the third generation of the Dobell family. Our small, reliable, and friendly business prides itself on providing high-quality work at reasonable rates, making us the go-to painters and decorators in Retford.

Our team, led by Paul Dobell, works alongside his father Martin, continuing the family legacy of providing excellent services to both domestic and light commercial clients. Our History

Leslie Dobell started working for Fred Wainwright's painting and decorating company in the early sixties, with his son Peter joining them soon after. When Fred passed away suddenly in 1962, Leslie and Peter decided to continue trading as L. Dobell & Sons. Peter's younger brother Martin joined the business in 1969, and they worked together as a trio for many years.

In 1971, Leslie opened a high street paint and wallpaper shop called Bargain Decor in Worksop, followed by a Retford branch in 1984. The Worksop shop traded for 21 years, while the Retford branch closed in 1990. Leslie retired in 1991, with Martin taking over the running of the business. In 1995, Martin's son Paul joined the business, and as Martin approaches retirement, Paul is taking over the reins, bringing the business into the third generation of the Dobell family.
