Our Story

Thomas McMaster & Son Ltd has a rich history that spans over 50 years. Our journey began in 1955 when Thomas McMaster, our founder, started the company from his home in Knightswood, Glasgow. Initially, the company specialized in a mix of private work and jobbing repairs to Glasgow tenements for House Factors. Over the years, we have faced various challenges, including changes in the market, competitors ceasing to trade, and increased competition. However, our commitment to quality and our founder's vision have enabled us to thrive and adapt to the ever-changing construction industry.

Our History

Thomas McMaster & Son Ltd was founded in October 1955 by Thomas McMaster, trading initially from his home at 9 Ivanhoe Road, Knightswood, Glasgow. The company moved to premises rented from British Railways at 24 Elmbank Crescent, Glasgow, in early 1957. Due to redevelopment, these premises had to be vacated, and alternative premises were purchased in 1959 at 55 Kelvinside Avenue, Glasgow.

The company took over the old established business of George Kilgour & Son in late 1959 and became incorporated as Thomas McMaster & Son Limited in 1961. Kilgour's business premises at 33 Anderson Street, Partick, Glasgow, became the main trading premises, although Kelvinside Avenue was retained until it was subject to a compulsory order by the Corporation of Glasgow in 1965.

In 1962, the business of Neil Leitch & Son, 62 Drymen Road, Bearsden, was taken over in 1962, on the retirement of Mr. Leitch. This was to assist with the expansion of private works in this area. The premises were retained until around 1967 when the business was totally absorbed within the main company.

Today

Weare a Glasgow-based roofing contractor and general builder with a rich history and a commitment to quality. We have a strong reputation for delivering high-quality services to our clients, from private homeowners to commercial property management firms. Our experienced team, including our own chartered surveyor, has a wealth of experience in building maintenance. We undertake various projects, from new builds to renovations and roof repairs.
