A Brief History of Encapsulite

• 1968: Encapsulite International Ltd started in 1968
• 1974: Began to manufacture darkroom safelights in conjunction with Agfa and became the largest independent manufacturer, working closely with all the major photographic companies, including Kodak, Konica, Fuji, and many others.
• 1979: Began to produce and supply coloured sleeves for fluorescent tubes
• 1982: Encapsulite freed the fluorescent lamp from the batten fitting with the Stick-Lite and remote ballast
• 1983: Produced the sodium oxide lamp with specific filteration for darkrooms utilising Agfa materials
• 1990: Started to manufacture coated fluorescent tubes for the food and associated industries
• 1995: Designed the IP67 MT70 range of lights with T8 fluorescent lamps
• 1996: The first incarnation of the HFI Stick-Lite arrived, utilising ballasts from Harvard
• 1997: T5 lamps arrived, Encapsulite embraced the new technology and produced the T5 Stick-Lite and grew the MT50 range of IP67 lighting
• 2001: Encapsulite moved from a 4000 square ft dilapidated factory to a modern 10,000 square ft premises, enjoying rapid expansion until the recession in 2007-8, when we consolidated and rode out the worst years with our ability to adapt and push forward with new product designs
• 2012: Encapsulite embraced LED technology, forging ahead with new and exciting products that we continue to push forward using the latest available technology
• 2016: Peter Waumsley, founder of Encapsulite, passes away aged 81. Although not involved with the company for many years, his foresight and "can do" attitude inspire us to drive ever forward
• 2019: Encapsulite begins its re-launch phase with a new website and catalogue, as well as a new Sales and Marketing team
