Heatherwick Studio

We are a team of over 250 problem solvers dedicated to making the physical world around us better for everyone. Our team of architects, designers, makers, engineers and landscape architects share a motivation to design soulful and impactful places, which celebrate the complexities of the real world. We have a combined workshop and design studios in London and Shanghai, where we create buildings, spaces, objects and infrastructure. Our approach is to lead from human experience rather than any fixed design belief. We want to see a world where the buildings and places around us are radically more joyful, engaging and human. We start each project from scratch, putting aside any preconceived ideas, and uncover the real issues and potential solutions at the heart of each project. Our team are collaborators whose role is to listen and then help lead each project.

We find answers that combine ingenuity and inspiration with designs that are affordable, buildable and sustainable. With over 100 international awards for design excellence, we are committed to delivering high-quality projects. Our founder and design director, Thomas Heatherwick, comes from a background immersed in materials and making, and his curiosity and passion for problem-solving have matured into the studio's current design process. We are practical inventors, makers, and positive pragmatists, working together to create impactful projects that make life better for everyone. We design for interest, variety, and emotional connection, regardless of scale or typology. Our goal is to make a positive impact on people's lives through our designs. We believe that good design can improve the world and make it a better place for everyone.
