Working together for a safer tomorrow, today

Our Story

Welcome to Glendoick Garden Centre, a family-owned business that has been serving the community for over 60 years. Our story begins in Dundee, Scotland, where the Cox family made their name through the jute industry in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Cox brothers, including James, William, Thomas, and George, founded Cox Brothers Ltd. in 1841, which became a limited company in 1893. The company was renowned for importing jute fibers from the Hoogli River near Calcutta.

Our Heritage

Fast-forward to the late 19th century, when Alfred Cox acquired Glendoick House and estate in 1899. Our esteemed ancestors, Robert Craigie, Lord Advocate of Scotland, built the impressive Glendoick House, designed in the style of William Adam, around 1747. Unfortunately, the architectural records of the house were destroyed in a fire. Alfred and Helen Cox's only child, Euan, was born in 1893 and educated at Rugby and Cambridge. It was expected that Euan would inherit the family business, but fate had other plans.

A New Chapter

In 1953, Euan Cox founded Glendoick Nursery, marking a new chapter in the family's legacy. Peter and Kenneth Cox, Euan's sons, joined the business and expanded its horizons. The brothers have since become world-renowned experts on rhododendrons and azaleas. Under their guidance, Glendoick Garden Centre has grown to become one of Europe's top 50 gardens.

Our Expertise

At Glendoick, we take pride in our extensive knowledge of rhododendrons and azaleas. Our team of experts has bred and launched over 100 new commercial rhododendron and azalea hybrids.
