Electrical Installations

Periodic Testing

Also known as Periodic Inspection and Testing or EICR, this report on the electrical wiring of a property is carried out by an accredited tradesman. The report outlines any defects the property's electrical system may have and highlights any safety hazards or concerns. The integrity of a building's electrical system is often taken for granted, yet it can be a major cause of fire or injury through electric shocks. The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recommends that in order to comply with the regulations, building owners should implement an inspection and testing programme. All electrical installations deteriorate due to a number of factors such as damage, wear and tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, ageing and environmental influences. The requirements for fixed installation testing are contained within the Institution of Electrical Engineers 17th Edition, Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

Pat Testing

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is a process of examining electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found by testing. However, it is essential to understand that visual examination is an essential part of the process because some types of electrical safety defect can be identified by visual examination which may not be detected by testing.
