Cookson & Son Ltd is a family-run business that has been operating in the gate automation sector since 2010. Our company has a rich history dating back to 1976 when Antony Cookson, the founder, began his career as an apprentice electrician at MIC Installations in Nottingham. Over the years, our company has grown and expanded its services to include installation, repairs, and maintenance for bespoke steel and timber gates, barriers, and hydraulic bollards.

Our story began with Antony Cookson who left school in 1976 to pursue a career in electrical engineering. He attended Peoples College in Nottingham to complete a four-year electrical engineering course and later worked at Lumelec, where he focused on air conditioning installations and maintenance. He then joined his father, Clive Cookson, in his building business, carrying out numerous electrical rewires on domestic properties and hotels.

In the early 1990s, the recession hit hard, and Cookson Electrical lost its shopfitting contracts. However, Antony re-grouped and returned to the domestic electrical work that had been the business's backbone in the early days. Over time, Cookson Electrical has grown and expanded its services. In July 1998, the company joined the Electrical Contractors Association and became a member of the Joint Industries Board (JIB).

In 1999, Adam Cookson, Antony's son, joined the business and started his electrical apprenticeship. He attended Loughborough College for four years and completed his apprenticeship in 2003. In 2005, the Part 'P' Building Regulations came into force, and Cookson & Son Ltd became Part 'P' Registered, allowing for self-certification of all its work.

In 2010, Cookson & Son Ltd started to branch out into the gate automation sector, and as the business grew, the company launched a new website and began to pick up business for gate automation. Today, we provide a range of services including gate servicing and maintenance contracts, risk assessments, force testing with certification, and safety and accreditation. We are also suppliers, installers, and repair specialists for automated gate, barrier, and door entry systems.

Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality services to our clients, ensuring that their properties are safe and secure. We also carry out installation of all types of electrical systems from distribution to end-point. For existing electric gates and entry systems, we also provide a range of gate servicing and maintenance contracts, risk assessments, force testing with certification, and safety and accreditation.

We are committed to ensuring that our work complies with HSE guidelines and EU law. Our team is trained to DHF standards, and we are accredited members of the Door and Hardware Federation.
